Satisfaction in God’s will

When we say God’s will is the best for us, sometimes we doubt it. Then, we have to be mindful that we have a sinful heart and know that maybe we have become dissatisfied with God’s will without even being aware of it. After which, remind ourselves that God’s will is indeed still the best for us.

Three questions

Learned from a Billy Graham devotion about 3 questions we should ask ourselves before we speak:

1) Is it true?

2) Is it kind?

3) Does it glorify Christ?

Taming the tongue is a life long thing. We could still hurt others by being honest alone.

Thinking in their shoes

Matthew 7:12

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.  -kjv

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.  -nkjv

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.  -niv

Meditations:

1) Sometimes we react to others according to how we feel. Though that is honesty to others and ourselves and being frank about it, it can be brutal to others.

2) Sometimes we do not know how to react to others in their situation because we have never been in their situation before. We might act according to what we think we should do but it might still hurt the other party.

3) I heard over a radio broadcast that in this digital age, children occupying their free time with computer games and all sorts of digital media are actually altering their brain structure.  They are less likely to and also not able to think in the shoes of others – less empathy.

4) As christians, we are required to think in others shoes as shown in this verse. The motivation should always be love. It is not easy to love because christian love is supernatural.

Jesus is God

Basics of the christian faith – Jesus is God, illustrated in Philippians 2

Philippians 2: 5-6

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: -kjv

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, -nkjv

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; -niv

Partly Fulfilled

This verse in the bible is only partially fulfilled:

Isaiah 9

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. -kjv

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  – niv

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -nkjv

Because it’s fun

My son is still a child. He do things because it’s fun. He plays the ipad because it’s fun. He likes to go to school because that’s where his friends are. He does not hate reading the bible history books but neither does he find it fun to do so and does not read it on his own. To motivate him to do something, there should be a reward so that he can do something fun like playing a new game on the ipad after completing the task.

So that’s why he has a parent like me to monitor him and to guide him. That’s why I need to make sure that he reads the bible history. That’s why I need to make sure that he does his math on the practice website. That’s why I need to make sure that he does his language homework and hands it in school. That’s why he is going for chinese lessons so that he will learn how to speak chinese. That’s why he’s doing his reading in English everyday so that he will improve his vocabulary. He need to do all that not because he likes it but because he has to. It is a parent’s job to make sure that he does it. As long as he does not hate it all too much, that is ok.

Unable to recognise God’s sign

On that day, I picked up my phone and called an old neighbor of mine, an old lady in her seventies and she was surprised to receive my call. It was because it was her birthday and since I seldom call her, she asked if I knew it was her birthday and I said no.

My logical mind was not able to recognize God’s sign until I listened to a radio message that preached that nothing is left to chance by God. As I reflected on what happened on that day in August, my christian mind tells me that it was God’s sign for me to show more concern for her. I mean, one out of 365, that must be God’s will but my logical mind could not recognize it and tend to dismiss it as chance and did not prompt me to do anything. But on reflection after listening to the nothing left to chance message, my christian mind prompts me to heed it as a sign from God and to show more concern for that neighbor of mine. She lives alone and is probably lonely and I could do more by calling her more often.
