From Galilee

Prophecy of Jesus coming from Galilee

Isaiah 9:1-2

1Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.  -kjv

1Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.  -niv

1Nevertheless, the gloom of the distressed land will not be like that of the former times when He humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali. But in the future He will bring honor to the Way of the Sea, to the land east of the Jordan, and to Galilee of the nations. 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness.  -hcsb

Fulfilment:

Matthew 4:13-16

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: 14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.  -kjv

13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: 15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”  -niv

13 He left Nazareth behind and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 15 Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, along the sea road, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles! 16 The people who live in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the shadowland of death, light has dawned  -hcsb

Out of Egypt I called my son

Prophecy:

Hosea 11:1

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.  -kjv

“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.  -niv

When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.  -hcsb

Fulfillment:

Matthew 2:

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.  -kjv

14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”  -niv

14 So he got up, took the child and His mother during the night, and escaped to Egypt. 15 He stayed there until Herod’s death, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called My Son.  -hcsb

Where does God live?

God lives in heaven and also in the heart of man who has a contrite heart and humble spirit.

Isaiah 57

15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.  -kjv

15 For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.  -niv

15 For the High and Exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy says this: “I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.  -hcsb

Jesus the only way to God

Jesus was telling his disciples that he is going away to prepare a place for them. Thomas asked Jesus how can he know the way if he does not know where Jesus is going.

John 14

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  -kjv

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  -niv

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.  -hcsb

5 verses to read on Reformation Day

Read this from the biblegateway blog on 5 important verses to read on reformation day (Oct 31):

1)Romans 1:17

2)Ephesians 2:8

3)1 Peter 2:5

4)2Tim 3:16

5)Matthew 11:29-30

Excerpt from the blog:

on Romans 1:17

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” -niv

The famous reformer Martin Luther identified this verse as one of the key inspirations for his work. Luther saw in it (and in other verses, like Habakkuk 2:4) a powerful reminder that it is through faith in God’s grace, and not through good works, that humans are justified before God.

We are warned not to crave for evil things

1 Corinthians 1o

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted  -kjv

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted  -niv

Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire evil things as they did.  -hcsb

These things refer to what happened to the Israelites when they were trapped for 40 years in the wilderness. The Israelites were punished for many of the actions they took because of their evil desires.

In 1 Corinthians 10:7-10 talked about the evil things that they did:

1) They were idolaters

2) They committed sexual immorality

3)  They tested Christ

4) They complained

About Moses’ body

Jude 1

Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.  – kjv

But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”  -niv

Yet Michael the archangel, when he was disputing with the Devil in a debate about Moses’ body, did not dare bring an abusive condemnation against him but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” -hcsb

Notes taken from the Apologetics Study Bible:-

Jude 1:9 alluded to traditions found in pseudepigraphal works (The assumption of Moses and/or the testament of Moses) in recounting the dispute over the burial of Moses. The notes also say that citing a quotation from another source does not indicate that the entire work is inspired even if the saying drawn upon is true.

I came upon this verse when I was listening to a christian radio program when someone asked if Michael the archangel is Jesus.  In this verse, Michael the archangel is calling upon Jesus/God and shows that Michael is not Jesus.

Words and Judgment

Matthew 12

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.  -kjv

36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”  -niv

36 I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”  -hcsb

Question:  Does this verse refer to believers or unbelievers or to all?

Galations 6

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For every man shall bear his own burden.  -kjv

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. for each one should carry their own load.  -niv

Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. For each person will have to carry his own load.  -hcsb
