Isaiah 7

¹³ And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? ¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. ¹⁵ Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.  -kjv

¹³ Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? ¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. ¹⁵ He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,  -niv

¹³ Isaiah said, “Listen, house of David! Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men? Will you also try the patience of my God? ¹⁴ Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel. ¹⁵ By the time he learns to reject what is bad and choose what is good, he will be eating butter and honey.  -hcsb

Observations and comments:

1. The opinion of some people is that Isaiah 7:14 says that only a young woman will bear a son. The hebrew word used here is almah. Every usage of the word “almah” in the hebrew bible and not one you can find a description of a young woman who is sexually active when she is called an “almah”. So every time you see the word “almah”, you will associate it with a young woman who is a virgin. So the word “almah” has a specific meaning of a young woman who is sexually pure.
