Where is Babylon in Revelation 17-18?

Openline on October 12, 2024 Hour 2

Hi Dr Mike, in Jeremiah, he talks about the destruction of Babylon where it will not be rebuilt again, what Babylon is being talked about by the Apostle John in Revelation 18.

Answer from Dr Michael Rydelnik @5:46

https://www.moodyradio.org/radioplayer.aspx?episode=618144&hour=2

Summary of Dr Rydelnik’s answer:

There are 2 views of Babylon in Revelation 17-18. The first view says that Babylon could be symbolic of Rome. Babylon could be a Roman State. For Dr Michael Rydelnik, he does not believe Jeremiah 50-51 has been fulfilled in its complete way. He believes that Babylon will be rebuilt and Revelation 17-18 aligns with Jeremiah 50-51 and foretells the end of day destruction of Babylon.

If you want to train your children correctly, train them in the way they should go, and not in the way that they want to go. Remember children are born with a definite bias towards evil, and therefore if you let them choose for themselves, they are certain to choose wrong. The mother cannot tell what her tender little infant may grow up to be, tall or short, weak or strong, wise or foolish, he may be any of these things or not, it is all uncertain.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. – Proverbs 29:15

But one thing the mother can say with certainty: he will have a corrupt and sinful heart. It is natural for us to do wrong. “Foolishness,” says Solomon, “is bound in the heart of a child,” (Proverbs 22:15) “but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame” (Proverbs 29:15). Our hearts are like the earth on which we walk; leave it alone, and it is sure to bear weeds.

If, then, you want to be wise in dealing with your child, then you must not leave him to the guidance of his own will. Think for him, judge for him, act for him, just as you would for one who is weak and blind; but for pity’s sake, do not allow him to pursue his own unruly tastes and inclinations. It must not be his tendencies and wishes that are favored.

He does not yet know what is good for his mind and soul, any more than what is good for his body. You do not let him decide what he will eat, and what he will drink, and how he will be clothed. Be consistent, and deal with his mind in the same manner. Train him in the way that is scriptural and right, and not in the way that he thinks is right.

Open Line on September 28, 2024 hour 2

Listener:

Luke chapter 5, verse 14, I am trying to understand what was the sacrifice that Moses commanded for the cleansing?

Answer from Dr Michael Rydelnik @14:22

https://www.moodyradio.org/radioplayer.aspx?episode=610611&hour=2

Summary of Dr Rydelnik’s answer:

During that time, people who were cleansed of their skin diseases has to offer their sacrifices and the priests function as sort of a health examiner to see that they are cleansed. Leviticus 13 tells of the skin diseases and Leviticus 14 tells of the sacrifices when someone gets cleansed of the skin disease.

No Love for Christ? Anathema! By J.C. Ryle

If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha. -1 Corinthians 16:22 (KJV)

Paul allows no way of escape to the man who does not love Christ. He leaves no loophole or excuse. A man may lack clear head-knowledge and yet be saved.

He may fail in courage, and be overcome by the fear of man, like Peter. He may fall tremendously, like David, and yet rise again. But if a person does not love Christ he is not in the way of life. The curse is yet upon him. He is on the broad road that leadeth to destruction.

The Seven Churches of Revelation – the Church of Ephesus

The first of the video series on the Seven Churches of Revelation – The Church of Ephesus

The one lesson I have learnt from the first of this video series – I could be doing many things for Jesus but my lampstand will be removed if I lose my first love.

The subtle disease of loving money by JC Ryle

Let us watch and pray against the love of money. It is a subtle disease, and often far nearer to us than we suppose. A poor man is just as liable to it as a rich man.

It is possible to love money without having it, and it is possible to have it without loving it. Let us be “content with such things as we have.” (Heb. 13:5.) We never know what we might do if we became suddenly rich. It is a striking fact, that there is only one prayer in all the Book of Proverbs, and one of the three petitions in that prayer is the wise request–“Give me neither poverty nor riches.” (Prov. 30:8.)

Open line radio on Aug 31, 2024 Hour 1 @2:34

Answer from Dr Michael Rydelnik:

https://www.moodyradio.org/radioplayer.aspx?episode=609201&hour=1

Summary:

The reference to the new covenant in the old Testament is shown in this post in the context of the question asked by a listener: if the new covenant replaces the old testament?

Dr Michael Rydelnik explains that two places where the new covenant is referenced in the old testament occurs at:

Deuteronomy 30

6And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.  -kjv

6And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. -nkjv

6Moreover, the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul, so that you may live. -nasb

6The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. -niv

Jeremiah 31

31Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:  -kjv

31“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.  -nkjv

31“Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD. -nasb

31“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to  them,  ” -niv

Tell them all about Christ by JC Ryle

Do you ever try to do good to others? If you do, remember to tell them about Christ. Tell the young, tell the poor, tell the aged, tell the ignorant, tell the sick, tell the dying—tell them all about Christ.

Tell them of His power, and tell them of His love; tell them of His doings, and tell them of His feelings. Tell them what He has done for the chief of sinners; tell them what He is willing to do to the last day of time; tell it to them over and over again. Never be tired of speaking of Christ. Say to them broadly and fully, freely and unconditionally, unreservedly and undoubtingly, ‘Come unto Christ, as the penitent thief did; come unto Christ, and you shall be saved.’

Moody radio openline program August 17, hour 2 @41:23

A listener mentions that she and her husband debated on what is the meaning when Jesus says: “Carry your cross and follow me?” Her husband says your cross is your faith but she thought that our cross is the trials that we go through in life. What do you think?

Answer from Dr Michael Rydelnik:

https://www.moodyradio.org/radioplayer.aspx?episode=606612&hour=2

Summary:

In the first century, when Rome considers someone to be a rebel, they will crucify that person. The Romans made the person whom they want to crucify carry the cross. The Romans are saying that you are rebel, we are making you submit and they would force people to submit. So, to carry one’s cross became an idiom for submission. So, when the Lord Jesus says you are to take up your cross and follow him, all He’s saying is that “you are to submit to me and follow me where ever I lead you”

The marks of a Dead Man by JC Ryle

-When a man’s heart is cold and unconcerned about Christianity
-When his hands are never employed in doing God’s work
-When his feet are not familiar with God’s ways

-When his tongue is seldom or never used in prayer and praise
-When his eyes are blind to the beauty of the kingdom of heaven
-When his mind is full of the world, and has no room for spiritual things

When these marks are to be found in a man, the word of the Bible is the right word to use about him, and that word is, “Dead.”
