1 Corinthians 1o
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted -kjv
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted -niv
6 Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire evil things as they did. -hcsb
These things refer to what happened to the Israelites when they were trapped for 40 years in the wilderness. The Israelites were punished for many of the actions they took because of their evil desires.
In 1 Corinthians 10:7-10 talked about the evil things that they did:
1) They were idolaters
2) They committed sexual immorality
3) They tested Christ
4) They complained
It has always been difficult for me to understand why God’s people sinned so often and so terrible against him. They sinned then God punished them usually for many years. Then God forgave them, took them back so to speak and soon again his people sinned again and again. While reading and looking at the people of Israel I wonder….are we or am I as sinful as the people from Israel? I don’t think so but still I sin and I am a sinner. The lesson could be for myself…keep looking in the mirror each day, pray as well and think seriously what I have done. Thank goodness we have a wonderful forgiving savior when we know him.
